Legacy Gary Member Stories – Highland Flats Farm and Distillery
Since Gary Young’s passing, we have put a lot of thought into how to continue the D. Gary Young blog. We wanted to foster a stalwart commitment to Gary’s legacy, so we asked members to think of a fond memory of their time working with him on projects, on travels, at one of the farms, or in another setting, to share those memories with you.
Here’s one such memory from Sara W.:
When I first laid eyes on Gary, I was 18 and had been a member for only a few months. My mom and I traveled with a few of our team members to the ribbon-cutting of the Highland Flats distillery. This was the first time ANY of us would see Gary, and we didn’t know what to expect. Maybe he would be wearing a suit and fly in on a private jet. He WAS the CEO after all.
We arrived at the farm and were shocked (pleasantly so) to see our CEO wearing grubby clothes because he had been working all day! He was so down to earth, and we knew right away that he was the real deal.
Gary gave us a tour of the distillery and visited with us. After dinner, he stayed for hours sharing story after story. What was especially impressive is that he had been working all day, and I’m sure he was tired, but he stayed to visit anyway!
I really cherish this memory because it was a defining moment for me, being so young and new to Young Living.
